Re: Which Torque converter for A4 3.15's ..FINAL ANSWER? (MikeyD)
Comparing the top 3 guys (Yank, Precision & ProTorque) they for the most part are very similar if, and only if you compare the same stats to one another. I have used a ProTorque 2900 that has me running 11.7's @ 118 with 1.6 times for the 60' on 275 x 17 BFG drag radials, NOTE they are not the 3.15's !! However I now have a prototype ProTorque in the car and the street drivability and track improvement are quite good, I use this car as my daily driver with 66,000 miles on it. I have had people drive my car, both on the street and at the track, and they marvel how this unit is so much better on the street then what they are using. If you really want a docile but race oriented converter, give Joe a call at ProTorque and ask it he can give you a copy of my converter, just tell him Dennis told you to call.

I've driving my self crazy about which converter set up all year!
This year I did the carroll supercharger and put on Z06 chrome
wheels and piolt sport tires. I have until the spring to decide which
converter when I get the trans done. I'm stuck between the
2400 pro torque with 3.42 gears or leave my 3.15 and go with the
yank 3000. Any body have any suggestions on which would be faster?
thanks, Jimmy
P.S. Good thing I have all winter to think about it! :smash:
Jimmy...you never called buddy. I'd be more than happy to take you for a ride. I have the Yank 3000 with 2.0 str.

Sure Vig offers a free stall change assuming you want to pay the extra $500 in labour to get it in and out and that's assuming you can find a shop that will let you occupy a lift for a week while you send it back. It's would be a great policy if it was easy to get out but it's a HUGE job.

It's not PIs fault that GM designed the C5 the way they did. This policy was in effect before the C5 was introduced to the market. I have friends who have taken advantage of it.

Does anyone here have a Vig converter? I have a 3600 in my camaro and love it...very streetable for driving and very good for street racing and track (1.53 60' with drag radials) In my vette I have 3.15 gears and I'm thinking about possibly going higher and then adding a converter...any thoughts from you who have vig's?

I'm about 3 weeks from having my vigilante installed. I have a 2800 sitting in the garage. Wish I could help, but I'm contemplating a 3200 upgrade because of the car's lightweight.

I think im going to go with the yank 3000. I just have this thing about
the 3.42 gears but I know with my supercharged set up that the 3000 with
the 3.42 will be to much for the street. Which do you guys think is faster
the 3000 stall with 3.15 or 2400 with 3.42?

Re: Which Torque converter for A4 3.15's ..FINAL ANSWER? (Jimmy O)
The lower the gear the higher the stall. So the 3.42 would be best suited to the 3000 and the 3.15 for the 2400. The 2400 is too low for your application regardless of gear choice. Also because you have a supercharger you'll need a low str to control the power down low unless you plan on using slicks on the street. I think a Yank 3000 with the 3.15 gear and a 1.86 str would be great. Alternatively the 3.42 with a 3500 and 1.6 str would also be super especially on a roll where that combo shines.
