I've read through many of the previous posts on installing oil catch cans and havn't found details concerning installation for older style PCV systems on LS1 engines. Would someone please post schematics, and if possible a picture without the fuel rail cover, to illustrate a correct installation.
Thanks everyone for all the information! Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the diagram at the following web site: http://www.customcorvetteaccessories...lcatchcan.html - appears to be instructing you to connect the existing hose from the side valve covers to the top nipple of the oil catch can. This is followed by connecting the bottom nipple of the oil catch can to the intake manifold. If this is correct, what I'd like to know is, if the supply is coming from the side valve covers, how does oil vapor from the crankcase come into play? I'm sure I'm missing how something is routed or connected from the valve covers.
The heads are open to the crankcase through oil passages. On the 98-2000 Ls1 there is an PCV outlet on each valve cover. Drivers side is at the rear of the cover near the firewall. They Y behind the intake manifold to a single tube that routs forward to the PCV valve. The PCV valve is located right at the inlet to the intake manifold. To install the catch can disconnect the PCV valve at the intake manifold nipple, remove the short rubber elbow, and install the new PCV hose directly to the outlet nipple of the PCV valve and route the hose to the top nipple of the catch can. Hose from the bottom nipple of the catch can then goes to the inlet nipple on the intake manifold.
Inlet air for the system comes from the top of the throttle body with the hose running to the passengers side valve cover.
Some feel the catch can connections should be reversed, inlet at the lower fitting, outled at the upper since there's less chance for the vacume in the outlet to suck in oil that has coalesed and running down the side of the can.
Thanks for the explanation! It now makes sense and I can proceed with my oil catch can installation knowing how the complete PCV system functions. There's a tremendous wealth of knowledge on this forum.

Your lines are crossed up, lower port is outlet, to behind the TB.
Upper gets a feed from the crank vent.
Actually my lines are correct for my car - 2003 Z06 - as confirmed by the EE install instructions and Jeff of EE himself who happens to also own a 2003 Z.
Here's some info on catch can installation for various year C5 Vettes. Looks like the link on Elite Engineering's site is messed up, but here's a link that works. http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/I...uctions_CC.pdf
I highly recommend the Elite Engineering catch can ... nice stuff !!

Thanks for looking out though.
Ya sure?
Not second guessing you (maybe I'm not seeing it right with the pics) but it looks like the PCV valley feed is coming in on the lower port.
