Hey guys,
Looking to get some LT's. I know everyone has their favorites, and we're a lil baised about the ones we use, right? But does anyone have specific info/data that shows which LT's are better than the others. (Not looking for the REAL hi end/expenssive ones either). Debating between American Racing & SuperMaxx Lt's? Anyone got real numbers/quality info on these?
Steve,
Thanks for the reply. I've heard the AR's are much easier to install. Since, I can't see myself being under the car on jack stands, struggling with rusted bolts, playing with 02 sensor, and trying to lift the motor, I'll let the pros install it for me. So, it wouldn't matter to me which is easier to install. (labor rates would be the same for both I think).
However, my main question was the difference in the performace and the quality of the both. I'm getting a used Supermaxx set (1500 mi) for around $800 locally, and was wondering if it's a good price?
Thanks in advance... LT guys plz share your ideas....
Yes, for used Dynatech Supermaxx headers, $800.00 for a 1500 mile set is a good price - 1500 miles is HARDLY even used, and the cheapest price I've ever seen was around $1,350.00 for a new set.
You will LOVE the Dynatechs - install is not too bad, great fit and finish, quality product!
If you have the money, either LG or Dynatech would be my choice. They are true long tubes (primaries twice as long as the rest), and will boost mid-range as well as the high end (as they all do).
Thanks for the replies guys. I guess not too many ppl are using LT's huh.. . More educational info is always appreciated...
You seriously need to consider the search feature regarding this topic.
There won't be enough time in the day to read all the information available to you if you do.
One of the reasons you dont see alot of responses (IMO) is that this topic is one of the most beat to death topics on the C5 tech board.
Use the search.....there is alot of information out there but the abridged version is that you cant go wrong with either the AR or the LG systems and the merits of each come highly debated here.
i don't know comparisons but i was at a corvette shop getting a blackwing filter and the guy had a used set of tpis long tubes, hi flow cats and xpipe for $950 so i grabbed em..the sound is much deeper now and it sounds really good under acceleration...plus it def feels like it's pulling harder..
I have a '01 Rag Top/ interested in LT Headers. Auto/ also what are my muffler options that you can offer? ship to St. Louis,MO. My email address is garychytil@charter.net / 314-412-9675. Thanks.

My rwhp with stock manifolds was 380. I added TPIS LT, no cats and x-pipe and it put down 401rwhp. The guy I bought the used TPIS headers from gained 18rwhp just by changing over to LG pro LT's.
I just picked up a used set of TPIS stainless headers and an MTI X-pipe for $300 bucks !! Not sure what the HP gains will be yet, but I just couldn't see myself spending $800 to $1400 bucks for headers... that just NUTS !! Just my 2 cents....

I am going to disagree with that post because its conditional..
The LONGER primaries of the LG's & Dynatech tend to LOSE their scavageing effect above 3500 rpms..
They are GREAT for LOW END TORQUE at LOWER RPMS..
Perfect for street driving & road racers..
However for DRAG racing, the brands with shorter primaries KOOKS, AR, TPIS, will OUT PERFORM from 4000-7000 rpms, exactly where the powerband is @ WOT....
The dyno results may only offer minimal if any gains, but on the dragstrip, a .05-.1 quicker ET can be had..
