One of the terminals on my starter broke off today and since i let the man at the exhaust shop weld my downpipe together i have to remove both of the SLP headers to free up the starter...
My big question is If i can remove the solenoid from the starter motor and replace it with one from the new starter without physically removing the starter from behind the headers. I believe i can loosen it up enough to turn it upside down and get access to the solenoid assembly. After i can touch it, i believe there are 3 or so screws that attach it's casing to the cast assembly on the starter itself. Besides the lead that goes to the starter motor what else is connecting the solenoid to the starter motor? I feel like i will encounter a cluster or problems once i remove this...
Is this idea insane and doomed for failure?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i am rather not looking foward to doing the complete header install again b/c of a simple starter replacment...
I just checked my old starter I had sitting around. It looks like there are those three speciality screws (look like torx but inside out) and the screw that connects the wire from the solenoind to the starter itself. Should be a fun puzzle to take it apart with out removing the exhaust.

I saw the same bolt heads on a Jeep, reverse torx, the sizes start with an E. You can buy the sockets at autozone.
If it were me I would remove the mid pipe from the muffler flanges and header flanges and drop that passenger side header enough to remove the entire starter. If you are worried about grinding afterwards I wouldn't. I just removed mine to install my American Racing Headers and it goes back in there really tight. There is a certain spot the starter hits to line up and its a nice snug fit.
