Default My 427 Project

A while back I decided to forsake FI and do a big inch engine for my C5. I did a ton of research and decided to do a 427.

I bought all of the parts from Corvette Forum and LS1 Tech sponsoring vendors. A local shop, RMCR, is doing the assembly work for me. Today I stopped by and the long block was just about done (no valvetrain yet).

Tip of the day: I converted to a LS2 pan. The oil filter on the 07+ engines is different than previous years.

Looks great! Just for my own info what is the difference between a LS7 block vs another 427 engine?

The LS7 block (what I have) with a stock stroke yields 427 ci (427.7 ci actually). There are several other combinations of bore and stroke that will give you the same displacement on a LSx.

Me too. It should be installed in 2 or 3 weeks. The shop is real busy right now.

I am going to tune it myself using EFILive. I'll do drivability and idle first and then rent the dyno and finish the tuning.

I just did the same motor in a friend's C5. LS7 wet sump with c6 pan/ported l92/l76. Great combo!

Mine is 402 with same heads, intake.
The idle tuning will be a real challenge, let me know when you are ready-

Wow that looks nice.Do you have a part # for the oil pan? Did you have to get a new low oil sensor or does the LS1 fit?..........Paul

You will love the 427...this is the engine that should be in ALL Corvettes! We built ours off the C5R-427 block.

Having had one now for over a year I can tell you it is a joy to drive everyday. Mine is a daily driver and has been very docile on stop and go traffic in Atlanta. The torque is right there when you want it (400 rwftlbs at 2500rpm )so you always have the power quickly available. There is really no substitute for cubic inches.

Today I decided to splurge. I had the shop order me a set of Katech valve covers and coil relocation brackets.

You will love that motor, I built a Darton sleeved 440 for my Z with a very similar cam 232 240 117 and it is an electric motor freight train. low speed roll ons in fourth and fith from 30mph are unreal. With a mild cam like this, for having a lot of displacement, the power and torque are really controllable. Idle tuning is tough with the LS2 90mm. Have fun.

In general the GM LS2/7 is a non issue. With large displacement or particularly with L92's high intake air volume plus cam, the idle throttle opening must be "induced".
