Now what are the actual numbers? Dyno results from stock cars?

These are the actual results

1997-2000 coupes and convertibles had 345hp
2001-2004 coupes and convertibles had 350hp

2001 Z06 had 385hp
2002-2004 Z06 had 405hp

Dyno results will vary, depending on the operator, weather, tire pressure, how hard the rear straps are holding the car, etc.

When GM dyno's the engine they vary by 1 or 2 hp. A chassis dyno is used to measure changes. That is do a base run, make the modification and then make the post run. The most common application of this is a dyno tune.

Figure drivetrain losses of ~15% (manual) & ~20% (A4)

So if an A4 dynoed 345 rwhp, its output at the flywheel is about 431 hp.

Not bad - I'm happy.

Just had a 2002 Vert A4 Vette on the dyno. Completely stock aside from a Blackwing CAI. On our Mustang MD1100-SE dyno, it made 311rwhp and 323rwtq weather corrected.

I was always under the belief that those numbers were HP at the flywheel, not at the rear wheels.... was I mistaken?

Stock of 345 x 80% = 276 RWHP is the minimum. Typically stock 97-00 A4's are a little better. However, if you have RWHP of 345 then 431 at the engine.

That's high. Our stock LS1 with Vortex CAI was only 293 RWHP.

Mine is an 03 A4 stock (except VaraRam and Corsa catback). It was Mustang Dyno'ed at 325 at the rear wheels.

Since stock the car is in the 280 range, that would mean a 40 RWHP gain on air intake, which is unlikely. You must have got one of those STRONG factory engines.

Manufactures horespower ratings have always all been at the flywheel NOT at the rear wheels. Based on 3 years of reading countless posts of dyno results, horsepower ratings and endless disscussions of parasitic losses. this is what I have found...

Parasitic loss is about 10% for a 6 speed and 15% for an A4
Parasitic loss from an independent suspension amounts to another 3%. There is NOT a specific percentage.. These are ballpark figures

Different dynos give different numbers
The same dynos give different numbers
The same dynos with different operators give different numbers
Dyno calibration settings vary and can be changed from SAE to Standard by the operator, giving totally different dyno numbers
People exaggerate numbers.
Dyno Jet SAE corrected rwhp on a Stock A4= 280-290 6spd 300-310
Best thing to do is stick with the same operator and same Manufacturer/model Dyno from Bone stock - all modifications
Don't rely on what others say about THEIR cars output based on the above information I have provided

The A4s do not loose that much power (20%) either do the M6s (15%) it is closer to 10/15.

Then most of the dynos that I have seen over the 6 years I have been on the forum meant that many C5's were out of spec, because typically stock runs were 280's. A 15% loss on a 350 is 298. As I said previously mine with CAI was 293. The Vortex CAI on an '01 was good for ~8-12 RWHP, which put me in the low 280's. IMHO loss 10 MN6 /15 A4 is too low, maybe 13-15 & 18-20. Now if we had solid rear axle, I would agree.
