Has anyone used the moulded ABS splash guards advertised in most of the catalogs. I looked at a pair and am concerned they might scratch the the paint where the exterior edge contacts the body. Anybody use them? Any opinion or experience? Thanks!
I think that they take away from the appearance of the car. IMHO. I use lots of Zanio and the road grime just creeps across the body lines and out the back door back where they came from splash splash back on the road :yesnod:
I use the front and back ones. I need them since I autocross. But much less grime on the rocker panels since installation. plus thy appear stock to the untrained eye. Don't worry about scratching your paint, cause you will have to drill holes into the car to install them anyway.
I ordered these and then sent them back when I saw them. I couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the fenders and they are very hard plastic which will surely scratch the paint where the edge of the splash guard touches the fenders. You might be able to fix this second problem with some weatherstripping.
I haven't done it yet but I plan to just get some generic black rubber mud flaps and screw them to the inner fender wells. I've seen several cars with these and if you get them the same width as the tires they blend right in and are not noticeable.
I have them on the fronts and you can barely tell they are there. Haven't done the rears yet because I don't want to take off my wheels at this time. If you clean the area well and get them on tight enough they shouldn't move around enough to scratch anything. You can always stick a piece of plastic between them
I have both front and rear splash guards on mine. I also had them painted to match to car. They keep the dirt off the side of the car.
I don't have a picture with them installed to show you. :flag
My buddy and I did both cars. We epoxied extended brackets to them so we did not have to drill into the fenders. Then we split a piece of 1/4 inch rubber tubing and epoxied it to the edges where it would touch the paint. They look great and the rubber looks like it was made that way. BIG change in road grime and brake dust. I can e-mail you pics but I have not figured out how to get them on the forum.
could high tack double sided tape be used to mount these? I was going to get a set but I think I am going to try the clear plastic protectors. I just want to guard against rock chips.
I would not try to hold these on with only the doublefaced tape products. I would hate to think what could happen if one came off at high speed or even moderate speeds. That is why I made the brackets to connect to the fender inner liner, in case I did not like them, then I would not have holes in the fenders. But now, they will stay. I like them and they look good. I am still glad I did not drill into the fenders.
