If you are going to upgrade...
C6Z06 shocks for about 200 bucks
Bilstein Sports for about 300... or Bilstein HD if you want something softer.
These are the most common upgrades and will be much better than Z51 and WAY cheaper.
I use Bilstein Sports, no complaints! Fantastic ride.

The other responses to your post are pretty accurate - except that I have a set of ~35k mile c5 z51 shocks that I'll sell to you for next to nothing. If you want to try them out, send me a PM. If you buy them and don't like them, sell them to someone else. But they'll definitely make a difference on your car.
