Re: Anyone Changed their own clutch? (C5SilverBullet)
You really need a lift and a trans jack, as you have to drop the entire rear subframe and slide the transaxle and torque tube back several feet. Once that is done, the clutch is the same as any other car.
Re: Anyone Changed their own clutch? (C5SilverBullet)
I HAVE DONE MINE TWICE WITH JUST A FLOOR JACK AND A 2 FOOT PIECE OF 2X12. I PUT THE BOARD UNDER THE LOW SPOT ON THE TRANS AND REAREND AND LET THEM DOWN TOGETHER WITH THE FLOOR JACK. ITS NOT VERY HARD JUST TIME CONSUMING, THE FIRST TIME TOOK ME ABOUT 12 HOURS THE SECOND TIME ONLY TOOK ABOUT 8. THERE IS AN ARTICLE WITH LOTS OF GOOD INFO IN THE MARCH 2001 CORVETTE FEVER.
GOOD LUCK
Re: Anyone Changed their own clutch? (C5SilverBullet)
C5SilverBullet,
I'd be game. I think the least that you'll need will be a tranny cradle that attaches to your floor jack so that you can manipulate the tranny and differential assembly when you get it detached.
If you decide to give it a shot, keep us informed. It may turn out easier than you think.....or maybe it is something you'll only do once. :D
Didn't read your post indicating that you had a lift before posting. Sounds like all you need is something to support it when ready to pull it back. For God's sake be careful.....that's a lot of weight to wrestle with if you don't have proper support.
Whoa........I was going to try this..but my installer told me he would do it for $300 bones. The last thing I did was my poly urethane bushing kit........that was also time consuming......but I was on vacation. Good Luck and may the clutch be with you!
On my 61 i did not want to crawl under the car,so i pulled the engine with clutch. no problem.
Has anyone pulled the engine from the top with a hoist? Seems the clutch would come out without messing with the trans or rear. I know the dealer uses a lift and drops the engine out the bottom when they do it, and, i believe it is faster for them.
i just want to do the job safely at home by myself without killing myself. (i plan to get aC5 soon and do lots of mods)
