While I know that RPM, DTE, Lingenfelter, etc... all offer a product. was shocked to see that one company offers the 06C6Z output shaft as an option. Does anyone know if this is truly an upgrade, and if it is a direct fit? Does it matter whether you are an A4 or M6/M12??
We pro-actively include the 2006-2007 C6Z left output shaft in *ALL* of our Stage I differentials we build here, regardless of vehicle platform model. These shafts are a bit more robust in design than any other previous model of left O.E. output shaft; however, they do *not* compare in strength to our specifically engineered M4340-300M aftermarket left output shaft in any capacity.
We are the only Corvette IRS differential builder to do this and we also feel that since we are already in there in the first place while building a Stage I differential, we give our customers an increased value for their investment capital spent by including these heavier shafts in their differential....at no extra charge. We've been doing that for well over a year now.
Thanks DTE that is where I found this information. I was curious to know if it were capible that I upgrade the shaft now while my trans is out on my OE unit. Figured it would provide some added strength until I am ready for my DTE trans
If you do decide to upgrade the left output shaft while you're servicing other areas of the driveline, we suggest that you spend a little extra and install a HD M4340-300M shaft, rather than just a stock C6Z unit. It's capital and time better spent if you're going that far anyway.
Also, as we stated, we include the C6Z shaft in all our Stage I differential builds as standard- just because we're in there, it's better than the other previous design output shafts and it's no extra charge for our customers. Everyone wins.
At this point I am simply having the rear diff replaced completely and a Stall added for fun. Along the way I picked up some new shocks, area having my calipers powder coated, a new tunnle plate, ss brake lines, etc... you get the point. I figure if I have it out I might as well add some insurence. If they need to crack the case to install this then I will not even bother. I assumed it was as easy as replacing a shaft? I might not understand the labor involved. At 350 HP not sure it is even needed.
