Front Spring Broken
My 97 C5's front end was starting to sag a little and was looking kind of like a "Low rider" at times,,so I brought it into the local bowtie dealer. $1200 later, it emerged with a new spring, mounts, bushings, and shocks. The mech. said it was ready to let go completly and would have ruined my day. Especially, if it happend on one of the twisty roads in North Georgia Mountains, with the 1000 ft dropoffs. SO, if your vette is looking a little tired in the front end,,have it checked out. thanks ron...

Being to the stealership the "adjusters" are serviced as an assembly with a spring ( they would replace the whole spring to get an adjuster) it would sound to me like a "bushing" went kaput and lowered your your car on stock "bolt" (one)

My front spring was split or delaminated, really doesn't matter which, it should be replaced. I replaced with Z06 springs, swaybars, Bilstein Sport shocks and polyurethane bushings. Split single spring is a disaster waiting to happen, especialy on a performance car.

While generally speaking our glass springs are stronger than metal EXCEPT if you nick them like with a jack, throw rock from the road or other sharp object. They are like glass in that if they are scored (nicked) that will be a stress riser and they will crack. You also need to be careful with chemicals like some wheel cleaners, etc-do not get it on the springs. Other than this they are very durable.

I did see the old spring and it was definitely cracked, so I know they were not trying to put one over on me. I drive in down town Atlanta for work, and I have hit pot holes bit enough to swallow a small car.. I guess that's where it got damaged.....thanks
