The manual specifically says not to let the sensing elements come in contact with any cleaning solvents or lubricants. So, I would not use anything unless specifically made for MAFs.
that is what you want to use, any thing else is to harsh and the harsher solvents may damage the wires.
I just used CRC MAF cleaner on my '99 Blazer and my mileage jumped up and my performance is noticeably better! It was quick sluggish after I reoiled my KN airfilter with a little bit too much oil. FWIW, that only needs a wee bit of oil to work properly. I would never use brake cleaner on a throttle body or anything electronic.
First rule, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I know thats not what you are asking, but I've seen alot of heartache on here from people mussing with the maf. Just sayin', if you don't have a specific reason for doing it, I'd rethink messing with it. Good Luck!

Just changed out my stock airbox lid for the Zo6 lind, K&N filter etc. While I was at it I cleaned the MAF w/ CRC Maf cleaner...not just the wires but the housing as well. I also took off the air bridge and installed the "do nothing" smooth coupler to the TB. TB was clean and dry,,,not bad for and LS1 with 49K on the clock. All I can say in the end is that the inhale work described above and the Corsa's I installed last month came together to make a seat of the pants dif on throttle response. Took 2/10ths of 0-60 combined,,,,,FFFFFUUUUUNNNN
