Security light

I've been having the yellow "security light" start coming on occasionally. '97 coupe with an aftermarket alarm system (viper). Just recently started coming on at random times and have now noticed that it's always after going over a bumpy road or pothole. Turns off when the car is shut down and doesn't reappear until again I hit a patch of rough road.

Any ideas from the forum wizards?

It is more than likely a worn out ignition switch or your key. Possibly both. Get a new key made or use your spare and see if it still happens. If it does put in a new ignition switch.

Clean the pellet on the key with some rubbing alcohol. Does not hurt to try the free stuff first.
