I might not be using the correct terms here so please forgive me but I need to get this info to my mechanic so he can investigate after charging me out the wazuu for tranny repair. My car is a 98 Coupe w/ an auto trans 4L60E and 75k miles.
Has anyone herd of issues with the A/C tensioner (???) coming in contact with the transmission coolant hose and creating a leak, which in turn caused a sudden loss of fluid, followed by unknowingly driving and then creating my current situation of needing to replace my transmission.
I just dont want to have my tranny replaced and it happen again shortly there after. Sorry for the long...not so helpful explaination any help would be great. thanks
I have not heard of this as an issue (does not mean much), but the auto trans cooling lines do run right in front of the AC tensioner and pulley, its a PIA to change either on an auto trans. Not sure what could happen to cause an issue, there is a couple of inches of clearence between the lines and the AC belts/pulleys. And the area is kind of protected by the cross member and steering. I may look else where for an issue unless there was a break at that point.
I am assuming they replaced the broken hose, or they couldn't put in the new transmission.
Maybe you could ask to see the old on, so you can see how the hose was ripped open.
Other than that, I'd just put the car up on a lift and look under it to see how the new hose is routed. If is routed in such away that possible contact to the A/C tensior is limited, you will probably be ok.
