Adjust Caster to Help Correct Understeer ???
Funny Story...took our 03 C5 Coupe down to the allignment shop a few weeks ago. I asked them to do a Z06 spec allignment on her but with some specific settings. I even printed the specs and gave them to him to go by. He says no problem.
They get done with the car and hand me the Before and After changes.
Holy Cow! Almost 1 degree of neg. camber at all 4 corners. Hardly any toe front and back and a whole lot of poisitive caster! (can't remember exactly what off thetop of my head) Kinda far off the Z specs.
We look at the sheet I brought compared to their finished job and I asked why they didn't use my specs? He said we trusted our own better. Huh??? I said a little aggressive don't you think!
Looking close at everything, on the top of the page for the final specs says "2006 Z06 Allignment Specs" ! Doh!
Well a long story short, this why a free allignment tomorrow. He said try it out and see how you like it. So I did and it drives great. Still has a lot of understeer especially at high speeds. What I don't like is all the negative camber. It's going to wear out my brand new Michliens in a big hurry.
Anyway, any ideas to improve the understeer ???
Thanks Guys
The alignment you got is right on for Z06 specs, and yes, you will run the inside edge of the tires out early. This can be managed by getting the tires flipped (flipping the tire on the wheel) when the wear on the inside gets down to about half what it is on the outside.
Your understeer, though, is a different issue. Sounds like you're carrying too much speed on your corner entry (I'm assuming this is on a track, not on the street). Slow down more before the corner; this will let you get on the power earlier on corner exit.
HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
