Default Suspension Question

I currently have an unknown coil over system on my 99 M6 Vette, which was on the car when I bought it. I am not happy with it, the ride is terribly rough in the bumpy roads and I do not track the car. The car is equipted with the F45 suspension, however those shocks are no longer on the car. I am not leaning towards going back to the F45 since I have read nothing positive about them while browsing the forum.

I have 18/19 inch. C6's on the car.

Any suggestions for new springs/shocks?

I had a prior thread on here from a few months back but it appears it was deleted.

If its a coil over, you will not only need shocks but springs as well. You can find shocks fairly cheap, but the springs are a lot more. Maybe you can sell the coil overs to help.

It would be hard to know what kind of ride you want over the internet, but base stocks would be pretty soft. Try contacting Gene at http://www.gmpartshouse.com/ for stock parts, he is real helpful and has great prices on GM parts.

you can find some used springs and get some Bilstien shocks. Post a picture of the coilovers and someone can identify them. They may be worth some good money depending on the type. You could end up with some postive cash flow on parts end of it.

Thank you I shall post a picture.

Would C5 Z06 or C6 Z06 springs/shocks be a good idea?

If you get rid of the coilovers, you may also need to get a new leafspring (assuming it was taken off). I am not positive though, someone else will chime in!!

c5 needs c5 springs look for some z51 if you don't like a stiff ride see if you can catch a ride in a car with Z51 or base suspension to check out the ride.

I have the old leaf springs.

Is there any difference in ride height with base, z51 and z06 springs?

I remember a thread on here awhile ago about people impressed with either the C5 or C6 Z06 shocks and how affordable they were.

I do not need an air ride, but my current ride is awful. The previous owner included 4 new billstien HD shocks to go in, thinking that would improve the ride. I was thinking about going away from the current coilovers all together.

GM offers a kit (Part number 12499507 ) to upgrade the F45 to the Magnetic Suspension system (MSRC - RPO code F55) available on the 2003 and 2004 C5 Corvettes.

This kit looks like it will replace the controller that you may or may not still have in the car, and get you 4 shocks. Along with removing the coil over set-up, you'd have to put the original factory springs back on the car.

If you do a search on-line at the "usual suspects" web sites of parts vendors (gmpartshouse and or gmpartsdirect) you'll get more info and pricing for this option.

Thanks for your response. I considered that in the past, however it is a little out of my price range.

Put a post in the For Sale section. Maybe someone might be interested in swapping everything out with you... win/win.
