Default Key Fob Issues

Has anyone had issues with their key fob unprogramming? I put new batteries in both of them but I keep having to re-program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

Sometimes a bad car battery will cause the fobs to loose their training. Just an FYI

If you have already tried the resync and new batteries/cleaned contacts and the fob(s) lose their memory, you need a NEW FOB.

Not a used one from ebay.

may be a stupid question, but how do you resync the keyfob? i have recently changed the battery in the car and the fob no longer worked, so i tried changing the battery in the fob itself, but nothing happened. i am guessing that the keyfob just needs to be synced with the alarm again.

thanks

Resynching is simple. Press the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously and hold. In about 15 seconds, the horn will honk and the fob is synched. If this doesn't work, you need to reprogram the FOBs and that is a more elaborate but not difficult procedure.

Mine did this about a year ago. Ended up getting a new fob and it has worked fine since.

I have the same problem. I just received a new FOB yesterday (it is the correct GM part number and came in a GM bag etc.). I tried to program the new FOB and the car (98) wouldn't acknowledge it. I tried programming my old one. The car would acknowledge it with a beep and it would lock and unlock the doors. But, this morning the old FOB again will not work, which is why I ordered the new one. I checked the voltage of the watch batteries in both FOBs and they both show approx. 3 vdc. My car battery also seems to be good. I drive the car regularly it starts quickly and everything else seems to work. I have not checked the codes lately. I thought I would do that tonight.

I would appreciate any advice.

Did you try to reprogram it or resync it?
If the new fob is "new", check the battery or put a known good battery in it and try again to REPROGRAM through the DIC in options. As long as it is the correct part number and has a good battery and you reprogram through the DIC, it should work.
You cant however resync a fob that has never been programmed.

You only need to program it through the dic and then it should work. No need to resync unless you disconnect the car battery or something.

I need to buy a new one myself as I've went through a numerous amount of batteries, resyncing them, cleaning the insides and now it just doesn't work at all. Although I have heard plenty of CF members purchasing the ebay ones and having success with them.
