Oil pressure gauge read 80!!!! Never seen that before i was in second gear slowing down at about 65 mph downhill.... What happened here , never seen it that high...HELP PLEASE?
Seems too high, but need more data to troubleshoot . Did DIC and gauge agree, what was the coolant/oil temps at the time, are you using recommended weight oil, did the pressure go back to normal, or stay that high, etc.
SOME cars have experienced sticking oil pressure relief valves, in the oil pump. They can stick open, giving ZERO oil pressure, or closed, giving too much pressure.
This just happened to my SS, it jumpes up to 75 at WOT and is at 65 normal driving. It never used to be this high? Oil and filter only have 1K on them.
As mentioned above, the oil system has an overpressure relief valve that will open to prevent excessive pressure. Obviously, higher RPM will produce higher pressure. When I had mine up to 155 mph, the oil was quite warm but the high, sustained RPM gave me a surprisingly high pressure. I didn't spend a lot of time looking at the gauge, but it was at least 65 psi or perhaps higher. Normal during cruise for me, depending on oil temp, is around 50.
