Did the deep pan you installed come with a filter extension ?? Some deep pans use them and some don't--If you are supposed to have one--make sure it's in there or it will get hot picking up air bubbles--check with the manufacturer of the pan to be sure which way it is supposed to be--

Before you go bypassing anything, you need to figure out what has changed. Like others have chimed in, they're temps are significantly lower under more adverse conditions i.e. racing, etc. The more you modify, the more variables you add to the equation. Figure out what is wrong first before any more mods.

High stall converters slip until lockup createing high temps, driveing on street converter does not go into lockup causing higher fluid temps, you need to keep RPM's up to keep in lockup, not easy to do street driveing. The high temps started after converter change correct?Add a good cooler will help high stall converters are for race use. Also check fluid level in park, see owner manual.

brian vette, are the temperatures you report track temperatures (road course or drag?) or are these temperatures seen during routine highway driving?

I am a road course guy. My car with an A4 has a DeWitts radiator, B&M finned aluminum trans pan, Derale transmission thermostat and Summit Racing auxiliary transmission cooler. Transmission fluid path is- transmission to radiator, radiator to thermostat, thermostat to transmission below 180 F, thermostat to auxiliary cooler back to transmission above 180 F.

The auxiliary transmission cooler is 1-1/2" x 7" x 18".

On the highway I see 180 - 190 when fully warmed up. Less around town.

As high as 240 F on the track after three 20 minute sessions.

Because of the relatively high track transmission fluid temperatures, I run full synthetic trans fluid (Red Line D4 ATF) and change fluid and filter every six track days.

I found a picture of the auxiliary trans cooler:

And trans thermostat:

Before the deep pan temps were 200 to 215 with regular advance auto ATF. Installed new deep pan with complete flush and Mobile 1 ATF and now my temps are 220-227 degrees and that temp scares the fluids out of me and into my undershorts. Is this to high ? I understand the high temp code will not be thrown until 277 degrees. Will changing to 160 degree thermostat lower the temp in my radiator and help my problem? Any ideas?
Bypass the radiator entirely if you live in warmer climate. The whole extra fluid in the pan to keep your tranny cooler only works if you have a way for the heat to get out. I had temps hitting 190-210 here in Florida until i bypassed the radiator and threw in a el cheapo Dewitts tranny cooler and my temps rarely see 180 even if I idle in place for about 10 minutes. To see if you have any other issue hit the highway in 4th and cruise at 65-70 2k RPMs and see if the temp drops after a few minutes to match your coolant temp, if it stays the same even if your coolant temp drops then something else is going on.

If the OP hasn't figured out the issue over the last 9 years, he probably went broke putting transmissions in the car and can't afford intranet service. Lol. Put this thread out to pasture already .........
