I have been trying to decide if i want to go with the blackwing(225.00) or use the Z06 air filter housing upgrade that ken is selling(45+50 for k&n filter), which in your opinion is the better bang for the buck, would like to hear all your expert opinions.
Re: Blackwing or 2002 Z06 Air filter housing? (JediManJB)
Jedi, I agonized over the same thing awhile ago, and this is what swayed me. At the forum cruise-in, I spoke to a guest GM engineer about aftermarket intake systems. He told me in the factory's tests for filtering efficiency (I'm not talking about flow rate), it was stock filter, then Donaldson, then K&N. For the Donaldson's extra bucks, I figure I'm getting better flow and better efficiency.

Well I know all our Z06 customers are getting good performance gains from installing the Blackwing on their cars so I feel I am safe to assume you would get more power from a Blackwing than from the Z06 lid. An air filter upgrade provides the cheapest power per dollar gain you will ever see with modding a car so you might as well take advantage of it in my opinion.
If you have any questions about the Blackwing or are interested in placing an order, let me know.

Just installed the Blackwing, it went in very easy. My first inpression is great throtle response, the power is there when you hit the gas, only drove for about five miles, so computer has not relearned yet, so i will get a couple of hundred miles and let you know how it does.

Sniper, looking at your picture in sig., does the vortex power duct use factory grommets to hold it in place or are they eliminated ? Thanks, Skip :chevy

If I were you I would just go ahead and purchase the Blackwing because after you get your New Exhaust (whichever you choose) You will want one anyway.

No, they are eliminated. I left them there since I didn't want the plastic posts sticking out of the schroud. The Vortex is supported in the air on each end (by the throttle body on one side and the MAF & Donaldson on the other). When you fit it all together you want to get the duct as low as possible so that it does not hit the hood when closed. :chevy
Re: Blackwing or 2002 Z06 Air filter housing? (JediManJB)
I just switched to the 02 filter lid and I installed the z06 front air screens and the car really kicks . I had the Halltech tric / mag set up but I switched over because I am heading to Fla. for the winter and did not want any type of water issues. The combo of the 02 lid ,screens and Halltech Mag seem to be pulling harder than with the tric and Mag but that could be because the weather has been so much colder . Hopefully I can check both systems out at the track before this season ends! :chevy
