Default turn signal / multifunction lever replacement

I am needing to replace the turn signal switch on a 2000 hardtop w/ 6spd. I was just wondering if there were any suprises? It looks straight forward in the service manual, but, most things usually do.
Also, is it okay to simply disconnect the battery to disable the SIR to remove the wheel? Or do I need to remove fuse and/or disable mod? I usually just kill power (disconnect battery) , wait a time with patients (10 min) then unplug bag.
Safe to do it this way?
Thoughts?
Thanks

I didnt have to remove the steering wheel when replacing my turn signal. If you have individual torx bits you can use them along with a 1/4" wrench to remove the fasteners that would otherwise require removing the wheel. The only possible gotcha is that the top steering column trim piece is held on by small reverse torx screws, so you'll need to get some torx sockets to remove those.

There is no need to remove the steering wheel. Simply turn the wheel 90 degrees to the left to get at one of the torx screws.

My steering column covers had no screws, they snapped together.

remove center console, center stack, knee bolster, column covers thats it!

Just did mine this evening. I did not remove the center console. I did lower the knee bolster (4 screws, one behind fog light bexel, pry off bexel, one behind a/c sensor vent, pry it off and two at front of bolster). I had one of the "male torx" screws holding the top plastic column piece and it was a problem. I made a tool by squashing a cheap, small socket to fit and I replaced the torx screw with a philips head screw. I wish I had known to turn the steering wheel to access the lower screw holding the switch to the colum - would have saved some time.
