Sorry for "gilding this lilly" but I cannot get into competitive mode. I have read recent strings about this subject and am still at a loss. I have lent my 2000 manual to a friend so I'm at a disadvantage. Anyway I have pressed and held the Traction Control button several different ways ( ie car on, just ignition on, break on etc.) and It just turns the Traction Control off and on. Thats it. The car is a y2k so I'm assuming it has AH & TC. No indication on the DIC... No Nuttin.... I hope all that the only thing wrong is that I've missed the boat.... Thanks for all your comments.............

Re: Competitive Mode Problem or Operator Problem???? (66ImpalaLT1)
Eric, thanks for the response. I thought it way standard issue from 99 up. That would certainly explain it. That is a cool feature. I sure hope its still operator error. Is there a way to tell without doing some sort of a search on the vin#?

Re: Competitive Mode Problem or Operator Problem???? (rosecustom)
Jeff,
On your console, if the button is labeled Trac Ctrl (or similar) you only have Traction Control....if you have Active Handling, the button will be labeled Active Handling (or similar)....thats the quick way to tell....
Re: Competitive Mode Problem or Operator Problem???? (Mike Mercury)
The 2000 required the car to be stopped. And the button hold may take up to 7 seconds; again assuming the car has AH.
Generation I Active Handling cars (late 1998-2000) may be moving when the button is first pushed, but must NOT be moving at the point of Competitive Driving engagement. In other words, you could push the button 4 seconds before you stop, so when you stop, you get Competitive Driving almost immediately. If you are not stopped at the point of timeout, you must reinitiate the entire cycle again as Competitive Driving will then not engage on this cycle. Generation II Active Handling cars (2001-2002) can engage Competitive Driving on the fly.
If I remember correctly ... the button on the con has a picture of a car skidding, just like the light on the dash.
This is true.
There should be text printed on the console just in front of the button that says "Active Handling"
Re: Competitive Mode Problem or Operator Problem???? (rosecustom)
Also, if you look on your glovebox door (inside) your options will be labeled. If you have the JL4 option, you have AH/TC. :yesnod: If it's not listed, you don't.
Re: Competitive Mode Problem or Operator Problem???? (rosecustom)
Thanks to everyone for the info... Sadly it appears I do not have the AH feature. Well one thing for sure... My next one will.. Thanks again...
