How much trouble is it to change out a Front Wheel Bearing assembly. Any info would be helpful and where is the best place to get the assembly at a reasonable price. Thanks
About half way down the page is a link. I got my wheel bearings at Autozone --- they are the same Timken bearings sold at the GM dealership for ~3x the price.
Go to Advanced Auto and 'borrow' their Ball Joint kit. It has all the clamps, presses, pickle forks, etc. you need to seperate the ball joint shafts from the control arms. BE VERY CAREFUL. If you rip or puncture a ball joint cover, you usually have to buy the whole control arm assembly since the ball joint is pressed in. If you have a damaged ball joint cover, PM me, I have a $5.00 fix that seems to work. Easy job if you have the right tools.
The tire is wearing on the inside edge more than the rest of the tire. Had the front end aligment checked and it was still right on. I do not know of any other cause of this other than a bad wheel bearing. If someone knows something different I am all ears Thanks
Go out and find a twisty country road. Roll windows down. Listen for change in rotational noise from your wheels. Mine went from fairly quiet to a low frequency wah, wah sound when I turned slight right in the front. Did not do it in the opposite direction. Wheel bearings are loaded the most opposite your turn. Turn left, right side bearing is under the most load/stress and visa versa. I changed out the left driver's bearing, no more noise/issues. Not bullet proof, but worked.

I had the same problem with the tire wearing out on the inside and when I went in for new tires, the installer said I had a bad tie rod. I replaced it myself and no more problems.
I think the way he checked it was when it was jacked up in the air he wiggled the tire left and right to see if there was any movement

I have to agree on the details of the thread on the wheel brgn replacement. I did the repair and found the bearing seal seemed to be leaking grease on the bottom of the assembly once I had it out. Anyone thinking of doing this repair should bookmark the page for further reference. Thanks
Hey all new to the neighborhood so thanks in advance and sorry to jump on an old posting but here goes:
in a moment of stupidity i slid my C4 backwards (driverside rear hitting first) over a short curb at about 10 MPH. after the fact i just simply can't bring the camber back into alignment. its not out by much about .75 degrees from where i would like it but it am at the limits of the strut rod cam. when i drive it when the drive side rear bearing "howels" a bit and gets worse in a right hand corner, seeming to be a tell tale sign of a bad bearing.
My question is does anyone think that a bearing (especially one that was stressed in the way mine was) could cause the camber to that hard to bring back into spec?
perhaps the rear bushing on the strut rod was damaged? but is sure seems like its ok.
