Can someone tell me what the rwhp limit is on a stock auto for a C5? I know the T56's can handle around 500 safely with no problems. I am just curious because there are more auto's on the market than manuals, as I am hunting for a C5. Also, are there any options with just adding a good torque converter and making it work? Im thinking the auto will blow out way before the manual will, that is without a build.
You will need a built trans if you plan to put that power down. Most guys with 400RWHP+ break very fast with stocker.
I am 410RWHP on my stock T56, and I would not want to add any more without upgrading it. I am on the stock clutch too, and will be upgrading(clutch) this summer, I know that puppy is ready to go..on pass at the drag strip(or couple good street launches) and she's toast
I'm 514rwp with auto. So far so good, however I just spin my tires. Once I put drag tires on it will probably be a different story. Im knocking on wood right now

See all, it not the HP!!!!! it the TORQUE that is the killer that why the TQ management system is so important to GM.
I never had an any issues with my stock automatic and stock converter. I did run a large cooler on the tranny though.
I was running a Maggie supercharger on stock LS1 421 RWHP and 436 lbft torque.

Sounds like you are still on street tires then, not putting anywhere near that much power down in reality, hooking is what kills the trans, not spinning.
Torque is the killer,, although torque and horsepower go hand in hand for the most part. 350-375 rw torque/horsepower... Thats about it.. Mine fried at 326 rw torque at 38,000 miles.. The A4 is the weak link in this drivetrain.... Transmission Temperatures over 200 degrees are the killer... Heats a killer for the A4... RPM transmissions has the best reputation for building bullet proof a4 s

Yeah, I should have added that. They were 295/35 AVS Yokohamas.
Not very good for traction.
