I had a check engine code and then P0343 was the code that I got when I checked it with my Autotap. I looked it up and it is the cam position sensor voltage too high. What in the world does that mean?
Re: Tech Specialists : What does P0343 mean? (akw408)
First line of action is to let us know if the car is running OK. If so, it was just a bad intermittent connection, and may never happen again.
The manual suggests either a bad connection, bad sensor, or bad PCM. I think if it was either of these last 2, your car would not be running, at least not well.

Thanks for the post y2k. Actually, the car is not running okay. It has now stopped running and there seems to be something seriously wrong with it. I had a cam installed a week ago or so, and then after this code now I got this ticking sound. It sort of developed into a sound kind of like marbles inside the engine. It got worse to the point where the engine sounded like it struggled to turn. I pulled the valvecovers off to see if a spring broke, but I don't see anything obvious. I pulled the spark plugs and 6 of them are white, and one has oil. These are new plugs that I put in after the cam. I am about to check the pushrods, but I don't know if I'll find anything there. It's probably unlikely though, since the marble sound does not sound like a bent pushrod. It's probably something more serious. Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. So I am looking for what P0343 means so I can determine responsibility for this problem. Thanks.

The CAM position sensor is not reading correctly. reading a high input.
You might assume whoever did the cam did not install something correctly or the PCM does not know the position of the sensor and cannot tell if pistons are in fire or exhaust stroke.

You may have spun a cam bearing or flattened a lifter or even spun a main bearing. Metal sounds are not good. I hope this works out to be something simple like a flattened lifter or maybe a bent pushrod. Something that only requires labor to fix. Maybe your cam gear? I'm just throwing out suggestions as I'm no expert. Best of Luck!
