Let me know if you need help. I can drop you a detailed e-mail or you can call me and I'll talk you through it.

I tried to reply using your instant messenger but after I typed in all of the instruction and tried to send it told me I had a 500 character limit. RATS.
First I don't think there's any difference between my 99 and your 01. No tools were required to do the 99. I've done three so far.
The Air Force comes out when I train so bear with me on the small details.
Pre-removal steps
Remove all jewelry, belt buckle etc that can cause injury are scratch the car.
Engine should be off and cold
Have adequate lighting.
Use fender protection
The entire assembly is mounted to the car by four fittings (posts where the air filter assembly mounts using rubber grommets)
Removal steps
1- Locate the air bridge coupler (the accordion looking rubber thing)
2- Using finger power pull the coupler off the air bridge (the air bridge has the Corvette logo on it) the coupler should just pull off. Probably less than 1/4 inch.
3- Locate the electrical connection on the drivers side of the air bridge and un-plug it (the gray plug)
4- Using finger and thumb power pull up on the two tabs on either side of the air bridge. Notice the rubber grommets. They may pull out of the assembly and remain on the posts. If so pull them off and re-insert them. If not your ready for the last step.
The last two mounts are at the front of the car at the bottom of the assembly. The air box assembly has two fittings (with rubber grommets) that slide on/off mounting post.
5- Get in front of the car and place both hands on either side of the assembly. Now push the entire assembly towards the back of the car. The two lower mounts are about 3/4" long so don't be afraid to give it a GOOD HARD PUSH. Once the assembly comes off the two lower mounts the whole assembly can be removed. Check to see it the rubber grommets pulled out of the assembly and stayed on the mounting posts. Mine did.
Once the assembly is out of the car you can un-latch the two straps and install the K&N gasket and filter. Re-assembly is the reverse. Some recommend lubing the four mounting posts and inside of the rubber grommets to ease re-assembly. That's a good idea.
I installed the new high air flow 02 Z06 air filter lid. That with the K&N air filter really added a kick to the 99's we did. I'd suggest that as a future mod.
Once you have the assembly off the car you'll see have simple and easy this was/is. You can't break anything. GM did this right.
Let me know how this turns out.
Good luck

I'm having problems. First, the air bridge coupler has metal bands at both ends that hold it to their fittings. The fitting on the air bridge side does not appear to have any adjustment to it, the fitting at the engine side had an adjustment screw on the band. I first decided to pull off the fitting at the air bridge side and had a devil of a time putting it back after I encountered the second problem which I'll go into in a sec. I recommend that the air bridge coupler side with the adjustable band be removed after loosening the screw adjustment.
Second. The electrical connection on the drivers side of the assembly has a retaining mechanism which my poor eyes couldn't decipher. I pulled out some plastic part of the retainer, but that wasn't sufficient for it to release its grasp on the connection. So, I quit here.
Never got to your last step about pushing the assembly toward the back of the car. I am assuming that your hands go between the nose of the car and the (now vertical) opened hood.
Hopefully someone will clue me in as to how to remove the electrical connection.
Also, the airbox assembly has a rubber hose hooked to it. It is flexible, so I am also assuming that I don't have to remove it as well.
Thanks again!

I respect your attention to detail! I think the forum should have a section called DIY...Do It Yourself and have people like you submit instructions to bolt on mods that explain things in detail, but in real life.
I've installed all my mods but still can appreciate when I 1st got my Vette and was afraid to pull out the air filter.
