I have a 97 A4 with 82k miles. The tranny was serviced over a year ago with fresh fluids and a shift kit. Today on my way home I gave the car some gas on the freeway and the RPM's just jumped like it was in N. So after that a cruised on the freeway home, finding that my car was revving to about 2500-3000 at 60mph (a lot higher then usual with my 3.15 rearend). WHen I got off the freeway I played with the gears by going to each one manually. First drives perfect, once i shift into 2nd, they car will rev up to around 3500 before it catches, and after that it still seems to be slipping. Third gear seems fine, and 4th seems to slip as well. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
My thoughts are that once a shift kit is installed, the shift delays need to be removed from PCM. If that is not removed, tranny will slip. Sounds like the tranny has already bit it. Sorry man.
Yes with a shift kit you must set ALL shift times to "0" so it will shift in adaptive learning mode--Also it might help to delete all the TQ management---Part throttle shift points should also be raised some in every gear--
It might be too late and already gone bad--I would check with whoever installed the shift kit--they should have known the changes in the PCM that had to of been done when installing it--Make the changes now and see if it fixes itself--if not---well---tranny time---but still make the changes for the new one---find a local tuner--handhelds won't do.
I never had any problems with it slipping. After the shift kit the shift were all fast and firm, no slipping at all. I am going to take the car in to have someone check it out.
