Default Check engine light

On my way home from a local car show this evening, 15 miles away.
Check engine light comes on. Car still runs fine and no codes were thrown.
Car: 1998 A4

Can't be something to serious, could it?

Will have it checked tomorrow or Friday.

Thanks
Greg

Just the check engine light came on.
Nothing else showed up.
Got home and shut car off. Restarted, check engine light still on.
Shut car off, turned ignition on and ran thru the codes.
Only thing showing up were history codes, and these had nothing to do with the check engine lights.
There were a couple of low voltage codes.
A radio code. A couple door codes. Just really nothing. Again, these were all history codes.

For the heck of it, re-check your gas cap. Open and re-close it...

Clear out all the old codes and start again.

And gotta agree, re-install gas cap.
But good luck on the 93 octane around Iowa. I have a hard time finding it around here. 91 is about as high as it goes here.

91 octane is the best I can do around here.

Checked again this morning. Check engine light still on.
Cleared all of the codes, all history codes, light went off.
Strange. Light came on, but no codes thrown. Clear the history codes and all is well.
Have had the "pull key, wait 10 seconds" come up twice in the past 2 weeks. But again, no codes thrown.
Thanks,
Greg
