Thread Locker “Red” or “Blue” what’s the difference?
I’m getting ready to put in a set of Crane Gold Rockers so I was out in the garage getting my stuff together and when I got down the thread locker it dawned on me that I have always used the “Red”. I know it comes in red or blue, what’s the difference and when should you use each?
There are 3 colors that I know of (there are probably more). Green-Blue-Red. They are just varying strengths. Red is the strongest I've used, you can still get it off with hand tools but it's not very easy.
I would use red on anything truly important. I usually use blue for small things.
There are maximum temperature limits on them also. Not sure about green, but blue is 190F and Red is 600F. Also, with red, depending on how big the fastener is and how much red you used, you may have to use a blow torch to get it off.
The other interesting thing I noticed is the Red comes in the blue container, and the blue comes in the red container.

I about bust a nut (my own) trying to get the front caliper bolts off recently. Torqued to 125 Ft. Lbs. AND red Loctite. 'bout the most difficult bolt I ever had to remove. 600 degree rating for heat in the calipers. Blue will cover just about everything not subjected to serious heat.
