Long story short, just had my a4 rebuilt at the dealer under the extended warranty. A week later started having problems with the shifting. When the tranny fluid gets to about 189 in slow traffic it slams into each gear while leaving it in D and letting it do its thing. Acts like the shifting pressures is at max. After it cools down overnight it acts fine. Today the check engine light came on while cruising and then in slow traffic it starts slamming into gears. Pulled up some codes, most history, but one says on the PCM module P1870 H C. Can't find that one on my sheet of codes. Any idea what that one is?
I did a google search for P1870 and came up with this:
Diagnostic trouble code P1870 (Transmission Component Slippage) is a General Motors-specific code whose set parameters are determined by transmission type and engine size. The PCM monitors and compares engine speed to vehicle speed after the converter clutch has been commanded ON in either high gear or Overdrive. Should the expected rpm ratio exceed predetermined parameters, DTC 1870 sets. And upon doing so, the PCM elevates the transmission main line pressure and stops converter clutch apply. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/m...6/ai_n17177306

Generic but gives an idea.

Thanks for the info. Thats why I had it in there, slippage. They put new clutch packs and band in. Still not sure why its acting up like it is now.

Actually I take that back. After reading the article it does say hard shifting could result from low fluid or a malfunctioning torque converter. Thanks again. Going back to the dealer tomorrow. Hope its just low fluid.
