Just got off the phone with a Chevrolet dealer. Told them I have no Cats in the car and asked what would not be covered under warranty in the event of some type of problem. The service rep said the emissions system and the complete motor! I asked what if the car had a problem and came in with the Cats installed? His answer was anytime there is a problem with the car they run a computer diagnostic and can tell if the emission system was bypassed anytime in the past. Can anyone tell me if this is true or was he just blowing smoke? For the record I did'nt tell them who I was or what I drive.
Thanks BOB
I'm with wallstal. They are pretty much feeding you a line of poop. The only feedback to the computer regarding the cats is the aftercat O2's. If you remove the cats you will set a diag code if you dont use aftercat o2 simulators. The dealer could look at that code I suppose if you took it in and wernt using the sims, or you didnt reset the code. Which is a no brainer.

It seems everyone forgets the I./M tests and the counters that are rolling,
Yes they can tell how long the Cats, O2s, etc as part of the non continous tests have been passing or failing. Downstream O2s should read higher O2 since cats produce it, without being there downstream value is compared to its upstream partner and easythen to know if Cats exist or not just by using aPCM scanner.
Being the Cats are part of EPA rules, fed laws says cat cannot be tampered with or removed, so even if the PCM did not inform, visual would.
The dealer was Maroone Chevrolet in Delray Beach. Need to have the fluid in the rear changed and would prefer Chevy to do it. Figured I would call and see what they said. Service guy was OK he said no problem but, if something goes wrong and they check the computer it would tell them about the Cats even if I reinstalled them before I went to the dealer. Basically I was told the computer is a RAT! Go figure a mouse motor with a rats brain! BOB
