I have an 2002 EB Z with 30k miles. I recently installed qtp headers, catless x-pipe, and dual cutouts. Also did a KNN FIPK at the same time as well as change the plugs and wires. I used NGK copper plugs gapped at .55 and plug wires which I cannot remember the brand of.
While driving around, sometimes at wop the check engine will flash and the code comes up p0300 for misfire. It never actually sets, it just flashes and goes away. What would cause this? I checked and all the wires are good and plugged in all the way. Could it be a tuning issue? The car is running very rich, I can smell the fuel and it also backfires.
I have plans on getting it tuned in the next couple of weeks, just trying to decide where to dyno tune at synergy for $500 or to drive down to RPM motorsports and pay $150 for a road tune.
A backfire usually is related to a broken plug or bad or burnt wire With a header install it can happen very easy to bend an electrode or crack an insulator with the install--I would take out all the plugs and look at them again--check the wires closely for burnt spots or them resting on the exhaust pipes--Another way is to close the garage-open the hood and turn out the lights--Start the engine up in the complete dark and if there is a wire short on the plug wires you'll be able to see it easily--don't run it too long carbon monxide and all--
Also check all the grounding straps around the headers--they are easy to break--
