Window motor dead?

Window motor dead?
I press the down button and all I get is a click. The wire harness connection piece looks like the connection seperation plastice cracked and it arced a bit so I'm guessing it fried the window motor since everything else works fine.
Any ideas or suggestions?

happens frequently to vettes that don't use the windows too often. If you do a search, you'll find the fix is to "hold the switch down and firmly tap/hit the door". It will release. Then use the window once a week to keep it moving.

If you are hearing the "click" sound from the control box in the door, then your problem is very likely the motor/regulator assembly. The temp fix to bang on or slam the door while depressing the switch is just that, temporary. May work once, maybe even twice, but eventually you will have to replace the motor/regulator. From what you said, you may have fried the motor anyway. The good news is that it's not too difficult to replace. I bought the assembly from gmpartsdepartment.com for $230 (retails for $360) and installed it myself on my 2000 in less then two hours. Saved at least $275 from what a dealership would have charged.

generally speaking, window motors are designed to go 'dead' in the down position to avoid trapping anyone in a disabled car with the window stuck in the up position. i would try a replacement switch first. if it IS the motor, it shouldn't take more than about 20 minutes to replace.........of course, i have 15 years in the automotive glass business so for the average wrencher an hour should about do it. just unbolt things that need to be removed, and put them back in reverse order. don't take the adjusters out without marking there locations first. makes installing the glass a lot easier.

Thanks for the advice though. I'll try it tommorow morning. And your right, I barely get to drive my car once a week.

My passenger window was stuck too, and all I heard was the "click" sound when I pressed the window switch. I removed the door panel, and banged on the area right behind where the door handle was (near the window motor) with a rubber mallet while depressing the window switch. Two taps with the mallet worked like a charm.

After reading this post. I when into my gargage got in my vette and pressed on the down button, I proceeded to hit the passenger door handle hard a couple of times (with my hand and not a mallet) and it worked as well. I'm now leaving to have the broken bones in my hand set and after that to the hardware store for a mallet. But with all that said and done thanks for the very helpful advice.
