Default Hood Emblem Removal

I just bought a 2002 that I am going to install 3M protective film to the front bumper. Can anyone share with me how to remove the front emblem so that I can apply the film under it?

Thanks

Greg

I would use a hairdryer to heat it up a bit and then some fishing line to cut through the double sided tape. Some guys use and old credit card for the removal too.

You can use your fingers to kind of roll the excess adhesive off of the paint and then a denatured alcohol as a final step.

Note that the front emblem has two alignment shafts attached to it that fit into two holes in your front clip. These are there to keep the emblem on straight while driving as the constant pressure of the air hitting it would eventually cause it to slip or move a bit.

Thanks for the tips. Now you have me wondering if I remove the emblem and place it back over the 3M film if it will stick to the film.

I'm interested in what film you're using (link). Is it safe for paint and will it let the paint breath? Is it similar to cleartastic? Is it cut and fit?

Reason I ask is I just put on a tigershark front fascia and want to put a clear protective layer over it as soon as the paint is done curing and I don't think they make a kit specifically for the tigershark pieces.

The company I am using is in your part of the country. Check out their website: http://www.clearmask.com/vehicle_pag...bulkf&year=all

I just had the 3M put on my 00 Tues. They didn't remove the emblem. The kit has a cutout for around the emblem.

Most kits likely come with the emblem cutout but I would prefer to have the material under the emblem for max protection.
