I've had my C5 Z06 for over 3 years, and love it. But let's face it....it's not exactly the fastest car off the line even though the 0-60 spec is 4.1 seconds. At the risk of being called a pu**y driver, I admit to not flooring it when the light turns green...most of the time. I accelerate, sure, but often get beat by a lot of other cars. Of course 2nd and 3rd gears are unbeatable, but you have to almost look like you're trying to prove something if you try to be first off the line in 1st gear.
So, am I alone in this? And, short of spending a lot of money on mods, is there a way to improve the "moderate acceleration" performance? When I clean my K&N air filter, I do find a boost in performance.
If you mean that you don't have traction in first (like myself and many others with gearing or hp upgrades), then tires are your best and only option (barring a solid rear axle and drag radials) to get your launch down.
If you mean your Z06 has no ballz in first, you need to take out one of the floormats becuase you must not be able to give it full throttle!!
In non-rainy weather I can take most cars except modded AWD subaru's off the line.
Drive it like you stole it or Go, blow or put it in the fence. You can't be fast off the line, if you don't let the big dog eat.....
If you want to go fast, push the right pedal all the way down.....
The "problem" is that someone driving a 4cyl grocery getter can floor it and "beat" you off the line, but with no drama. Their cars don't have enough power to blow off the tires, and the exhaust makes very little noise. So they can got WOT without any drama and "beat" a vette that's only going at 1/4 throttle or something.
If you decide to "beat" them back, you look like a jackass that's racing in traffic or something. No-win situation.
Either be content in looking like a jerk, or let them have their small 'victories'.
I hear Lancer Evolutions are quick off the line. Sell your Z and buy one of them. And ill still beat you!lol
You could always do what I do and Rev it up, start creeping, look over and grin, and when the lite turns green , just let the clutch out REALLY slow and just cruise it and remember that your driving a Z and hes driving and 86 civic.

Well if you won't rev it up and dump it, the best you can do is afterwards, invite his girlfriend to go for a ride. Nothing like getting passed by a car at 80 with your girlfriend sitting in the guys passenger seat. Well, mostly in the passenger seat anyway...

Yeah, see? That's exactly what I mean. I only want to look like a jackass some of the time!

If a 4cyl floors it, you can deffinately hear it. If your Vette is loud, you sure wont hear them as well, but I would hope 1/4 throttle in the Vette could pull away from the average 4cyl family sedan with ease
Grow some *****, I came over to the C5 forum and this is the first thing i read. U guys are funny. Dump the clutch and make em hurt. funny thing happend the other day. this bad As* was reving it up, he was in a modded civic, nothing i couldnt beat, well his girl was staring at me, and then he took off. next week I get an email on myspace saying "my boy friend tried to race you and he was soo nervous, and by the way...I think ur hott" lol, so just goes to show. but anywase dude, i have an LT1 if ur complaining about 1st gear in a C5 let alone a z06, Ill trade you right now

I know exactly what you mean. But eventually, the feeling will subside and it just wont matter to you when SUVs are hammering it off the line as you casually gallop to speed.
Then all the slow cars who are sprinting to be in front end up looking like jackasses. The corvette looks fast even when its standing still.
I don't usually floor it in first, but that's just because on most pavement, my back tires go up in smoke if I do
3500 rpm drop? My supercars would be toast. Not gonna drive on DR's because a) I like going around corners and b) I've seen waaaaay too many ppl spin their cars with them in the rain, usually resulting in a totalled car.
I have a modded C5 automatic and from a dead stop if i floor it --it will just fry the tires til I lift--When i go to the track & I put on the drag radials and its 100% better--But when driving around town i have to be careful how I launch without the DR's or I'll get beat--
My best advice is that everyone knows their own car better than anybody--and what it should take to launch it hard--SOOOO--always race YOUR race--don't let someone snooker you into a race you can't win---besides you're driving the Vette---and you're the BOSS !!! If you know you've got a traction problem as i do--then leave from a slow roll--or feather the start and practice --Make sure you can go far enough so if he gets out on you -you have room to chase him down- Always look for a lane -(usually near the center of the road) where there is no loose sand or gravel so you won't lose traction & never race a guy that's just blazed by you --he'll lift before you catch him and tell everyone he beat you-- Most of all be safe and have fun--puff those ricers & stangs !!!!!
By now we all know the traction limitations of our own cars.
Its all about throttle control.......unless you also have an MN6. Then its twice as much work.

3500 rpm drop: Just how fast is the clutch drop? One doesn't just let go of the pedal, do you? I thought that led to burning the clutch or at least a huge shudder in the car. I've revved it up and launched, but I don't have the guts to just let go of the clutch because I always thought that caused damage. Am I wrong?
