Has anyone installed a Vararam Velocity Stack on an otherwise stock 98 C5? Is there a noticeable difference in performance?
Try the SEARCH option You will find plenty of information. Now lets think about this logically, the "velocity stack" goes inside the throttle body hence you decrease the area thereby making your throttle body smaller! This is from the same folks that claim over 40 horsepower from the Vararam. The velocity stack is JUNK IMHO.
The Vararam works, because I noticed a big difference in performance after I installed it. The 40 HP they claim is doubtful, but I never had it dynoed, so I can't quantify the change.
As for the velocity stack, save your money. It is worthless. With the price of gas as it is, you'd do better to throw in a few more gallons for what that thing will cost.
My 99 came with one in it, actually I didn't know what the heck it was! I took it out cause of everything I read in here. And I lost a noticable amount of throttle response, put the little thing back in and my throttle response got noticably better again.
So my experience, VS = crisper throttle response. Is it worth it? I don't know, but usually any mod you can actually feel is pretty good.
Yeah I'm going to get bashed, I always do on this but I speak the truth! With all my Mods (see sig) it's still in there.
You CAN'T get the results that the vararam actually produces off a dyno. In all reality you will see more gains on a dyno from a blackwing or k&n with a huge filter. The vararam actually has a slightly smaller filter than your stock intake...it's just less restrictive. Where they get the 40hp gain claim is at speed. It is a true ram air intake. At speeds above 50 mph the vararam builds up positive air pressure going into the throttle body. Air is actually being pushed into the intake (like a very low psi supercharger), not pulled by the engine itself. It's simple physics. A dyno simply cannot reproduce the effect, the car is sitting still.
