Default Any Tire Experts Around?

Guys...

Well, my C6 Black Motorsports finally arrived. The shop recommended going no wider than 8.5 all around because I'm mounting them on a C5. I'm not sure of the validity to this...but hey, I bought em'. Anyways, could someone please let me know what's the widest tire I can put on these bad boys. The Seller said go with a 245/45...I'm thinking that's one...not as wide as I could go...and two...way to tall. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'll have pics soon!

Thanks!

8.5 all around ???? Stock (non-Z06) rims are 8.5 front and 9.5 rears ... the Z06 rims are 9.5 front and 10.5 rears.

The stock front tire size on the stock (8.5 x 17) rims are 245/45 ... just like your tire shop is recommending. The stock rears are 275/40 on 9.5 x 18 rims ... but you're not gonna get a 275 tire on an 8.5 inch rim.

You might want to re-think the size of those rear wheels ....

The person who told you that doesn't know what he is talking about. Your car is supposed to have wider rims in the back. If you would have checked, your stock wheels are that way. I hope you can replace the rears, they should be an inch wider with larger size tires.

BTW, my car has 10" fronts and 11" rears with no problems at all.

Wow, I'd be a little concerned, you may want to consider returning them... What is the diameter of the wheels? The backs also are usually 18's while the fronts are 17's, stock the Vette has a one inch rake (back higher than the front), changing that may not be the best idea.

The max tire width depends on the way the tire was designed and made. Check the manufactures web sites for the recommended tire width max. But, I agree that you probably are not going to be able to run a 275 of any tire on a 8.5 inch wheel.

Stock on a coupe is 17x8.5 front and 18x9.5 rear

Stock on a Z06 is 17x9.5 front and 18x10.5 rear - these will also fit on a coupe with no issues what so ever...

the shop you went to doesn't know WTF they are talking about, run!!!

tirerack is a great resource for looking at tire and wheel specs to see what fits what.. if you are going with new equipment I would suggest Z06 sizes with 275/40-17 fronts and 295/35-18 rears...
