Default Automatic Transmission Fluid everywhere

I have a non-C5 question. My brother has an 1995 Ford F-150 pickup with an automatic transmission. Last night he put it in park, then when he put it in drive, the fluid poured out the bottom and the car rolled backwards. I am going to check it out for him, are there any areas to look at to check for a big leak, prior to removing the whole transmission to rebuild? What general causes that much fluid to come out so quickly? Thanks in advance for the advice.

my cadillac lost it all through a cooler hose while on a 13 hour drive to tip of Fl. I made it to a parking lot 10 minutes from my final destination. Put a new hose back on and drove the car/transmission for many thousands of miles more without incident or detriment.

-cooler hose failed at the crimp, where the rubber meets the crimped metal fitting.

I will check that. I hope it is something that simple

I had the front seal walk out of my trans in my tahoe. The torque converter seal. Fluid everywhere instantly.

If it's as bad as you've described then the source should be easy to detect. Get it up on a lift or ramp and get under it.

Were their any symptoms while driving? It's hard to believe that with a leak of this size it waited until you were parked before everything going south..

My brother said he had no symptoms before it let lose. I was suprised about the no symptoms as well. Hopefully it is just a seal, I am going to check it this afternoon.

It's a truck. You can probably see where it's coming from if you just lean over and have a look under there.

It was much easier to check on a truck

So I checked to see if I could tell where it came out, stuff was everywhere, so I wiped everthing down, then refilled the transmission. Checked for leaks, nothing. We turned the truck on, no leaks. We started to drive it, still no leaks. When we give it gas the engine revs up, then the truck finally starts moving. When we came back from driving it around the block, everything was still pretty clean(including the lines going into the trans). The only place even a drop came out was the cap that covers the access hole to the torque convertor. The truck is definitely slipping when starting to move, could this just be the torque convertor?
