I understand you use a washer to reduce the spring tension to reduce engagement pressure on the shifter. I have read to use a copper washer with a 3/4" inside diameter and at least a 1/8" thickness. The problem is I can't find copper anywhere. I do find brass. Will brass work? Also, I found the exact size in brass. If brass will work, use two washers or one? TIA

Hey Jason,

Here's the info on the copper washer;

The bolt is on the passenger side of transmission. You cannot see it but if you reach up toward top of trans on passenger side about mid ways of transmission you will feel a bolt going in side of trans. It is a 15/16 or 24mm, either size works, bolt and you just take it out. No fluid will come out and no spring to fly around either. I used two of the 13/16th copper drain plug washers on mine, 13/16" (aka M20) copper washer (Advanced Auto - Motormite #65277). About 1/16th total thickness with both washers. Just place them on bolt and tighten bolt back up again.

It wouldn't matter if it's brass, this isn't a leak area and brass is pretty soft anyway.

As far as how many, that will depend on your preferrence. If you're running a stock shifter it may make it too "loose" feeling even with just one washer. On the other hand my Ripper was still tight after two washers and I ended up cutting my springs down to fine tune the feel... So you'll have to experiment really...

You can experiment if you want, but the antivenom plug removes all preload. You can use .250 thick if you want. Any hardware store or parts store (drain plug washer) should have what you need.

I found a thick copper washer at ACE HARDWARE in the bin section where they have bulk fasteners.
The ID was just slightly smaller than 3/4" which was remedied with 400 grit sandpaper. The washer thickness allows for fine tuning of the change in firmness of the shifter. The OD was perfect for the machined relief around the detent hole on the transmission. I preferred the copper for the sealing abilities.
I used it by the way on my oem Z06 shifter which has been shortened by 3/4". The change was noticeable.

I just bought oil pan drain plug washers at pep boys; I forget which sized fit best. I don't think I needed 1/8", more like 1/16" worked better for what I wanted.

I just finished and the tension on the my B&M shifter is notably less . The notchiness is still there though, just not as tough to get in. I used a brass washer with a 3/4" inside diameter and 1/8" thickness. The inside diameter needed to be dremeled out a hair though. Thanks for the help guys!!!
