Magnesium Wheels
I`m considering the purchase of some GM restored to new Magnesium wheels. Are there any general problems with this type wheel or a good reason not to buy them? They will be going on a `98 vert.

One of my concerns was if these are prone to chipping. I`ve heard that but was never in the market to confirm it with anyone. Also what is the strength like? Are they more easily bent when confronted with a pothole?

I bought mine from a fellow CF member. They look extremely nice. As far as chipping is concerned I don't drive mine enough to experience that. I always have other VETTERS asking me about them when I'm out in it. The code is N73. An expensive option when they came out. I suggest staying away from all potholes no matter what wheel you have on your car. They are tough. They don't bend, they will break. Magnesium is an unusual alloy. Light weight yet strong. Not like Titanium, that can withstand trmendous pressure. Titanium will not bend either, also will break. Anyway I say get them if you can. You will enjoy them very much. Make sure they have the factory stamps and the greenish yellow Magnesium decal under the clear coat. The same people that make the wheels for Lambos and other high end cars makes these. I just had a Goodyear dealer put new tires on mine and even though I checked with him before hand and he assured me he could do it, they did scrape the heck out of all 4 rims. Now they're trying to find someone who can refinish them for me.

T L C wheels in Euless Texas can take a damaged Magnesium wheel and turn it into a beautiful factory looking wheel. Down to its greenish yellow Magnesium decal.

Magnesium wheels
I almost ordered my c5 with the magnesium wheels. In retrospect I should have. They have obvious advantages.
My Pantera has Campagnolo Magnesium wheels. At 33 years old they are still like new.
Go for the Magnesium wheels without hesitation, a great choice.

I agree, I went to a recommended Goodyear dealer and they hacked my mags. that I was trying to sell. I had to buy touch-up paint and luckily I had very understanding forum buyers to still sell them to. Otherwise, I could of been stuck with rims that they damaged. The runflats are tough to remove. Tire Rack really doesn't know the shops that their recommending.
