I get this weird rattling noise from around the transmission area when I shut off my car. It works just fine all other times. At first, I thought it might be the same rattling they describe in the owner's video, but maybe I'm just being paranoid. Any ideas?
I just picked up the car last Thursday and have been more or less following the break in guidelines (vary RPMs, stay under 55mph).

I have it also. I also hear it this way: With the car idling, lean over to listen underneath the car. Then, rev it a bit. I hear a strange rattle when the RPMs are coming down and at about 1000 to 500 RPMs. I was going to wait until the first oil change at 500 miles and then see what the dealer thinks.
Re: Weird rattle when shutting off the engine (StormCrow)
I believe this is the rattle that most of us hear on shut down. Try turning it off with the clutch engaged and see if it still makes the noise. I know, this sounds awful and it seems that something should be able to be done to mitigate this, but everyone seems to say it is normal. Maybe direct a question to one of the tech gurus and see what they advise.
Re: Weird rattle when shutting off the engine (StormCrow)
The rattle only gets worse after heads and cam install. I beleive this to be the throwout bearing or someone can correct if I am wrong. The noise will go away only if the clutch is depressed when shutting off the car. Mine can be annoying sometimes especially in traffic.
Re: Weird rattle when shutting off the engine (Garceeya)
You are hearing the sound of the torque shaft coming to a stop when the engine shuts off. Unlike cars with the transmissions before the shaft going to the differential, C5s have a torque tube that is constantly spinning if the clutch pedal is not pushed to the floor. The transmission is what disengages the engine from the rest of the driveline so even when you are in neutral, the rest of the driveline in front of the transmission (torque shaft) is spinning.
I get the same sound and feel it is nothign to worry about as my car has made it since day one.
