Default Jacking/Lifting Questions

I'm sure that this has been answered before, but I can't seem to find a thread on it. Basically, I just bought my first Corvette a week ago (2000 year model) and I'm wondering what's the best way to jack it up to do maintenance like oil changes etc.... I've seen some guy on the internet write something about driving it onto blocks of wood to raise it high enough to fit a floor jack underneath and then jack it up in the middle of one of the crossmembers. Is this safe for the car? I've considered doing something similar for one of my previous cars and was later told that I could bend the crossmember. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Check this thread out (read the whole thing).
Many little details about lifting these cars properly. Problem is that the rockers are fiberglass (ya I know, not fiberglass, but cant remember the exact material) and wrap around under the car. And I have read that you can in fact damage the car by lifting from the centerline if you dont place the jack in the right spot.

You can get a small floor jack under the side and lift it without pucks, worse case is you crack one of the rockers. Or you can use the pucks and jack it from the transport tie down spots, or you can install rails under there (and not worry if a service station has to lift the car, prevents cracking the rockers), or you can use ramps but you will have to buy special ones or put a 2 x 10 infront of the ramp to get the front facia to clear when you roll up to stock ramps.

None of it is rocket science, just gets expensive if you do it wrong.

Do a search for jacking pucks and you should find some useful information. I have a set of the Elite Engineering pucks and they are top notch. You can also use a piece of high density rubber to keep from breaking the rockers as well. Rhino ramps are another option (sold at wally world for about $45). Hope this helps you out some.
