i am going to do my brake calipers today and was wondering if everyone is
painting around the CORVETTE LETTERING or if you are painting the whole
thing and then taking off the red paint. also, are guys painting the brake
pads red also. i ordered the paint from mid-america. is there a problem
with the paint drying even if the paint is in the can tightly. please let me
know a.s.a.p. because i would like to do this today.
Sand the letters using a small piece of ~400 grit on flat backing after the paint is dry. The paint will last ~4 hrs if very tightly capped in small container after mixing.
I removed the pads, rubbed vasoline on the letters, and sprayed the whole caliper. Then just scrape off the vasoline-paint with you fingernail.
cancel your order from mid america. just buy engine paint spray from and auto parts store for $5.00. the "ford red color" is a perfect shade. painted mine 4 months ago and it still looks like new.

I used high temp engine paint (1200 degree F) from Auto Zone. Sprayed it in a cup and painted the calipers (calipers only, not the pads or retainers) with a small brush. It took several coats (at least 4) over several days. I then scraped the dried paint off the letters with a knife.

Re: PAINTING BRAKE CALIPERS (GSCARR)
Did you guys remove the caliper if you spray painted them? I'd be worried about getting paint on things that wouldn't look good in red... You can mask it off, but what a pain...
I bought DupliColor high temp engine paint at O'Reilly. Then I sprayed it into a can and painted the calipers with a small brush including the letters but not the pads. I put about 5 coats on it over a 2 day period. Then I took a standard razor blade and scraped the paint right off the lettering, no problem.
