A few months ago, I had my 2002 C5 Z06 into the dealer for some extended warranty work, and asked whether I could get the fuel filter replaced. They said the fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump, and that I'd have to replace the entire thing. Today I noticed a tech tip on replacing the C5 fuel filter. The tech tip didn't talk about the fuel pump being part of the deal. Who's right?
I believe it was mid-year 2003 when they moved the filter back to the pump.
The "mech" at the dealership is full of crap. You'll find it just forward of the fuel tank slightly to the driver's side. DIY and take those monkeys out of the equation.
Thanks. I do as much as I can, but don't like to dig too deep into the Corvette, especially for things under warranty. But I agree, I've gotten a lot of crap information from most dealers.
Long story, but the only reason I was there was because I got mashed in the rear while on the freeway in Los Angeles. Twirp just blew it and blasted me. Bumper only had scratches, but the shock absorber behind the bumper had to be replaced, reinforcing bar was bent, the tub/trunk was cracked, and I had a small compression crack above the right rear wheel. I interviewed 4 body shops including 2 Corvette places, and settled on Selman Chevrolet. They do awesome work, and I was very pleased with the entire process. Paint matches perfectly and the body tech only works on Corvettes. They gave me a loaner, so while I had it, I figured they could do some mechanical work on it, too.
Anyway, thanks for the info. Sorry about hijacking my own post!
I bet they would of felt funny after they dropped the gas tank and saw that it wasnt in there. And just like the other members said its an easy job. I replaced mine about a year ago.
