Well, here goes....... I have an associate who wants to sell me a "new in the box" Vortech blower for my 2000 c5. The claim is it is strictly a bolt on deal that requires no internal modifications like blower pistons or blower cam. Net net is 425 HP @ 7-8#'s of boost. This blower can be had relatively cheap but I wouldn't attempt this without finding out all I can. I'm particularly interested in how the computer deals with this system. I don't want to be looking at a bunch of error messages on the DIC either. Has anyone had experience with this setup? What about cooking the engine before its time or burnt pistons? Of course Vortech claims no problems and little maintenance. I appreciate all replies. Thanks... Jeff....
Jeff,
I am not sure exactly what all is included in the “box” but there is a lot more than just bolting a compressor to the motor that makes this work. I would personally recommend that you only consider an aftercooled installation. I know that Carol has a kit out that is not aftercooled and some of the people with the kit are now looking for aftercoolers. The PCM does have to reprogrammed for the supercharger as well as the fuel delivery system needs to be modified. I am running at 10# of boost and I have not had any problems with my engine. I do use 100 octane fuel to help prevent detonation but there are no other internal engine modifications. The car has been very reliable as my daily driver. If you are thinking about a do it yourself kit, I would suggest you think twice. Getting it bolted to the car is difficult enough but getting it to run well is a different story.
If you are serious about a supercharger I would suggest you call Geoff at Performance Technical Center (1-847-228-7256) http://www.performancetechcenter.com/ He has a lot of kits installed and he has a lot of experience in getting his kit running the way it should.

Re: Vortech Supercharger (Mell)
You betcha, AMEN to that Brother. He would know he has been living it. PTC is the guru on supercharging and supercharing the C5 is alot more complex than one might think in order to get the car driving strong and reliable day in and day out.
ChasNMe,
I have used nitrous on other cars and it is a great mod, my problem was the bottle always seemed to be empty when I wanted it most. I did not like the inconvience of always having to get the bottles filled. The good side is that it is probably the least expensive horsepower.
I have never had a turbo car but from what I have seen they seem to be more expensive than the supercharger.
What I like about the supercharger is that the horsepower is always available and for me it has been very reliable. The base installed cost is $11,495. http://www.performancetechcenter.com/
