while driving in my 2000 coupe, my starter exploded took teeth off my flywheel and a piece out of my bellhousing! which wasnt a big deal I can live with, real problem is a piece of the starter went thru the block of my motor, and I have no Idea what too do! I dont have the funds too get a new motor, does anyone no of any recalls on the 2000's or anywhere I can research this! mabe its some kind of manufacture defect! but the car is 7 years old...... Please help in anyway!!!
Looks like you have some problems bro. I would start look at what caused this and priceing a new short bock or used long block. Good luck with the repairs keep us updated.
Sounds like you started the car and didn't notice that the starter didn't retract from the flywheel. It was probably making some serious noises before you accelerated that thing into oblivion. Sorry to hear it but yes, start looking for a new motor. Not much of a choice.
You can call some of the recyclers for engine prices. One I used to use is Rancho recycling 800/722-6015-ask for Francis or Larry. They deal only in vettes and GM and Ford muscle cars.
By the way, they are in the Sacramento area of Ca.

Aluminum is many times easier to weld than cast iron--aluminum heads are repaired all the time when valves go thru then and put holes in the combustion chambers -- they weld and fix them and you can't even tell--Cast Iron is really hard to weld and repair
That other guy needs to shut his big mouth. This is a good site but that's why this site is getting a bad rap.
As far as welding aluminum. It's not a problem. The area needs to be prepped very well ( Cleaned so there will be no porousity in the finished weld ) The problem would be getting to it. Now if you removed the block and took it apart no problems. at that time you could do a very simple re-build (Rings and berings if money is tight) Good luck.
you can weld aluminum without compromising any strength. Ive TIG welded tranny cases, broken intakes, you name it. The actual weld procedure is pretty easy and probably wouldnt cost much at all to fix. The problem is it has to be accesable. Take some pictures of the damage. Then find someone in your area good with a TIG welder that wants some side work.
Whats actually broke on the block? If you got most the peices for the bellhousing its repairable also. I dont think I have much to say about the starter though.
Sorry bro I just didnt know what too do- this car is everything too me!!!
Hey Bobbie, you also need to find out what caused the problem.
You don't want to get it fixed and then it happens again, so hang in there, and you WILL get thru the B.S. Good luck
