I'm about to do heads and cam. This is what i'm going to do and what some of your guys and gals input. Ls6 cnc heads, custom cam, long tubes and x-pipe for a total of about $4000-4500. I'm hoping to get 400-425 rwhp/ 390-410 rwtq. Is this being to optimistic? I'll be adding the nitrous later on maybe next year about 100 shot, just in case :seeya

I am not a big fan of CNCed heads. I believe that a hand ported head has the potential to do so much more. We have seen a few different programs come across our flowbench and most were opened up pretty large on the intake and exhaust runner and did not have particularly good mid and low lift numbers. With the size of the runner, the high lift was not even where it should have been.
We have had a few shops and customer that call us up when they first get the heads questioning our heads, wondering why the look like they are barely touched on the intake and my buddies heads are twice the size!!! We tell them just because it is not hogged out does not mean there was not a lot of work performed on them and to go ahead and bolt them on. Every one of them has called us back to tell us something along the line of "Holy ____!!! These heads made my car pull hard throughout the entire RPM band!!!"
Again, we have even had LS1 Specialty shops call us and tell us that!
With the LS6 Intake, I do not think you will have any problem at all making 400+ RWHP on a 6-speed car. Most of the cars with our heads are getting in the 420-430 range and have strong curves

Go ahead and get this done, and oneweekendI will drive down and switch cars w/ you and hopefully you won't notice the difference.
Keep me informed on how it turns out for you.
Ben
Thanks guys this is all new to me, with the mustangs it was throw a blower on it and call it a day :yesnod: So i'm about to go into new territory hear so any and all advice is welcome. LOL Ben, yeah someone is going to have to shut Ron up. I'm waiting to sell my bike before i get started on this but that will be soon. You'll have to come down after to see what you think
I suggest you do a bunch of reading and research before deciding on exactly what you want to do as far as a heads/cam package go. I highly suggest going with one of the top two LS1 tuners: ARE and MTI. These two companies have years of research and development into their packages and they make REAL power. They don't brag about false numbers in order to try and sell their packages. Their pricing is also very reasonable. Please dont shop with only PRICE in mind for big engine mods such as this. If you do, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Also remember one company's Stage 1 might not be the same as another company's Stage 1.
Check out the ENGINE section on the LS1.com forums as well. There is a lot of talk about heads/cam in that area and you can learn a lot.
If you have any questions about any of the products ARE has to offer or need any advice on heads/cam selection feel free to shoot me an email.
Wow Matt,
I hope you are not referring to me?!?!
Craig Gallant (our porter) has over 17+ years of professional porting experience as well as record setting comp cars, etc.
take a look at Garseeya on this board who ran at 119.90 this last weekend and put down 421 RWHP or BlackHT that just dynoed 429 RHWP with our heads, or FigsZ28 on ls1.com whos preliminary dyno results were 419 RWHP at 5800 RPM (break in dyno run) through a Ford 9" rear!!! He was going to give it full RPM on the next run but snapped a u-joint on the beginning of the run. The cam in his car should peak around 6800 RPM also!!! All of the above runs were done with no tuning!!!
I doubt very seriously that you will be able to find one car with Craigs heads on it that does not run VERY WELL!!!
My point, Craig has more Professional experience porting heads than most shops have doing anything. ARE seems to do very well and MTI also. I really don't think that you can go wrong with any of these choices. We have had many of both of these "tuners" heads on our flowbenches, so I know exactly what their heads are like. This being said, I think I have the credentials to make comments on other shops quality. Nick at ARE has had a few of Craigs heads on his flowbench also and I don't think you will here any negative comments about them from him either.
Anyway, this market is HUGE! I think we can both sell our products without downing our competition, especially without any direct insight.
JMHO,

I definitely was not referring to you and am sorry if it sounded like I was. In fact, I was not referring to any tuner in particular. You have to admit that there are quite a few tuners out there that make some crazy power promises, and those are whom i was referring to.
I agree, there are many good choices out there but I was just stating the two tuners that I have been most impressed with.

I know exactly which one you're referring to. Personally, I even heard about a few that you pay and not getting anything in return at all.
If i'm about to drop that much cash i'm going to get my money's worth. The guy i've spoke with is local and work's for MTI (motorsport technologies) and i've seen some of his work and is very impressive. I want something that is not going to be very lumpey and shake you out of the car :nonod: My roomate has a head's and cam, long tubes, no cats, ls6 intake 2000 ss, it's bad azz but just not what i want in the vette, things sounds like a damn pro-stock car. Like everyone else i'm just tring to get the best for less :yesnod:
I absolutely agree! Most Corvette owners are going to want a smaller cam and probably spread the LSA out to 114 to get a smoother idle. Also, keeping the stock cats on will do a lot to keep the lumpy idle down. With the right cam, you should barely be able to hear the idle change. :yesnod:
