My interior Rear-view-mirror loses its position when the car hits bumps. Has anyone experienced the same problem? Is there a way to tighten it? It seems to be a ball-in-socket type joint with no adjustments. Thanks in advance for any answers.
I had the same problem with my 93. It drove me nuts. I never did fix it. Now I have an 03 with no problem. You might try taking some vice grips, and squeezing the part that holds the adjustment ball. If it bends a little, it might work.
The vice-grip thing did occur to me. Maybe I will give that a try, and if that doesn't work, it look like that I will have to spring for either a new one or a used one. Thanks. Mine is simply the one that comes standard on a 98 C5. Are not they all the same? I do not know what you mean by e/c version.

Some mirrors (optional equipment) have a light sensor in them. At night the mirror "automagiccally" dims when bright lights are behind you. It uses an "electrochromic" (hence the e/c) coating on the mirror to do this. You'll have a small button on the mirror to turn the feature on/off.
If you do not have the auto dimming mirror, now is the time to add one. The link is just a guide. The mirror and harness can be purchased for much less.

Chevrolet didn't offer the elecrochromic mirrors in vettes until '01.

I installed the e/c mirror on my car and am very happy with it at night. However, during the day when the sun is directly behind you, the manual mirror could be dimmed but the e/c mirror cannot. I would still go with the e/c mirror but this is something to consider.
I have the same problem with my rearview moving down slowly...I'll try the "rotate tube 90 deg" suggestion first...it seems like it will work since it doesn't move side to side at all...just up and down.
I did the 90 degree rotation and took it out to some bumpy roads. Seems to have worked. It still does not feel real tight, like I would prefer, but maybe this will work for a while. Thanks for the suggestion JPCCDD. If it begins to slip again, I was thinking about dropping a drop of superglue in the joint. (I don't think that that would freeze it entirely?)
