I hear this grinding, scraping sound when I am going very slow & am making a sharp turn, Left or right, from the back wheel area. I know at this point my back wheels are not turning at equal rates. Last summer here in Vegas, my rear end would leak a little after a long drive in the extreme heat. This did not happen too many times & I dont think I lost that much fluid, but now I'm not so sure. I am thinking maybe I am hearing the clutches in the rear end.
I did go to chevy for the leak, but after 3 times they never could duplicate the leak, lucky me Now my extended warrenty is gone. I guess I need to check the fluid level & see from there. Any suggestions!!
To a certain point, the noises you hear are very normal. I had the typical differential chatter until I changed the diff. fluid to Amsoil SVG; the noise almost disappeared. Check the fluid level to make sure that you didn't lose a significant amount of fluid.

Sounds like you are low on diff fluid or you need to add limited slip additive as the big symptom is chatter on sharp turns. id check the level asap. rear should be quiet at all times.
If you drain and fill with Amsoil Severe Gear, you dont need any additives.
Changing the fluid and putting the additive in is the surely the fix. After the change, do a couple of very SLOW figure-eights in forward and reverse to work it into the synchros. It stopped the grinding/clicking sounds from my diff.

Is anyone running this Amsoil severe gear? I may want to do that to avoid using the 2 fluids & measuring! What weight would I need?
Same here..... Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90. Did several slow & tight figure 8's and all is good.
Don't be surprised if you can't find Amsoil in the stores - cuz its not sold in most auto stores.
Search their website and locate a *dealer* in your area. A dealer doesn't have to be a 'business' but could be the neighbor who lives down the street.
Good Luck!
Or order online direct from AMSOIL (info in my sig or use the link to the left), use reference #1206638 and the sale benefits my dealership and the forum.
