Default Tire Pressure Monitors

I need info please.I switched to another set of wheels that also have monitors in them.I immediately received message stating check monitoring system.I am going to go back to my original wheels with senders. In the mean time is there a way to turn off the system/message.If I recalibrate to the new sensors, can I go back to the originals later???

Thanks

I do not believe there is an easy way to turn off the tps system. If the sensors on the new wheels are of the early type which your car has you can program them and later reprogram your original tires later with no problem.

Whenever you switch the sensors (either the position of the wheel, or a different wheel) you need to train the TPMS.

See: https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=77&TopicID=1

for instructions. Takes 5 to 10 minutes to accomplish.

Each sensor has a unique "serial number" that it transmits with the pressure info.

Your car saw the sensors it was "trained" for disappear, hence the "SERVICE TPMS" messgae. Retrain the system to the new sensors and you should be all set. If you go back to your old wheels ... just perform the training process again.

2000 and prior have no way to turn off the sensors...
'01 and newer can be turned off but need a TechII scanner.

All it takes is a reasonable strong magnet to re-program... but you will have to do that everytime you change wheels.

If you bought wheels with the 2001-04 sensors, you'll be wasting your time trying to reprogram them. What year sensors are on the new wheels?

The originals are 2000 , the ones I put on are 2001.What happens if you use whells without sensors??Does the check message stay on the display all the time or can you make it go away???

Thanks

Just hit the RESET key and the message goes away and you can access the normal DIC displays.

You could get compatible transmitters for the "new" wheels, as the earlier transmitters are still available form parts houses (like Napa and gmpartshouse) and would work after retraining the system.

If the "new" wheels have runflat tires you should STRONGLY consider enabling the TPMS system. Without it you could be running on a severely underinflated/flat tire and have no idea unless you take a pressure gauge to the tirses on a regular basis.
